As if things couldn't get any worse for the citizens of Cuba:
The government of Cuba has announced a 500% increase in fuel prices beginning on February 1.
The Cuban government can no longer afford its massive subsidy campaign for nearly all essential goods.
Officials confirmed on Monday that the cost of one liter of regular gasoline would increase from the current 20 cents to $1.10.
I have a friend of a friend who is in Cuba right now, and he's staying at an *all-inclusive resort* (whatever that means in Cuba), and he's there for 10 days. He says the resort ran out of food and the only meat he's had for the last 4 days has been hot-dogs. And unless you're a 4 year old, that's not good news.
The fuel hike increases will bring the cost of filling a 40-liter tank with gasoline to the equivalent of around $23, compared to an average monthly state salary of less than $16.
At this point, saying anything bad about Cuba is just piling on. Sanctions and bad gov't has ripped this beautiful island to shreds, and all that's left now is a picked apart carcass.
I agree...
